Winter in 30A: What to Expect

I’m writing this from the charming Alys Beach, where the temperature is a crisp 55 degrees, with 20 mph winds under a clear, cloudless sky. As idyllic as it sounds, the weather here can be unpredictable—just yesterday, it was warm and rainy. If you’re dreaming of a wedding here, be prepared to embrace a few different scenarios. While we aren’t as far south as Miami, we’re close enough to Alabama for a spontaneous day trip, adding to the area's unique charm.

With most ceremonies held outdoors, a grand white tent becomes a necessity, not just for style but for comfort. Picture cozy heaters placed around the seating areas, and the bride wrapped elegantly in a soft fur coat or delicate shawl—a romantic and timeless look.

The town is dressed for the season: wreaths adorn shop doors, and garlands of lush greenery and golden accents tastefully embellish every building. If you don’t mind this festive backdrop in your wedding photos, it can lend a magical touch to a winter celebration—adding a unique “pop” that captures the beauty of the season.

I remember when I was styling brides they used to shy away from having holiday decor in their photos, considering it a distraction. But here on 30A, it’s done with such elegance and restraint that it feels like part of the story—a nod to the magic of marrying during one of the most enchanting times of year. It’s a memory you’ll cherish forever.
